Cruciate ligaments
Cruciate ligaments are the central stabilisers of the knee. There are 2 cruciate ligaments: anterior and posterior cruciate ligament. They are located centrally in the knee and connect to the femur and tibia. Claudius Galen (199-129 BC) gave the first description of these ligaments and named it: “ligamenta genu cruciate”. The Orthopaedic Center Máxima is a center of excellence for treament of knee injuries. My practice is a tertiary referral center for cruciate ligament and posterolateral knee injuries for The Netherlands. I refer to the webpages Biography and Publications for additional information on my practice and scientific research.
For additional information on on anatomy, causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, view anterior cruciate ligament and posterior cruciate ligament.
