My leg is straight again!
Experiences of a 55 year old man after total knee prosthesis. Previous surgeries include arthroscopies and an osteotomy due to osteoarthritis.
A previous active sports acreer has caused knee osteoarthritis of my knee. The troubles really started at the age of 35. I have had many arthroscopies in various hospitals. Problems were cartilage and meniscus lesions. My legs were O-shaped, making things even worse.
I have consulted dr Janssen in Máxima Medical Center, Veldhoven, The Netherlands. He recommended an osteotomy of my lower legs. Surgeries went well and after rehabilitation, I could function normally again for 10 years.
After 10 years, the complaints returned in my knee. I have reconsulted dr. Janssen. After listening to my story, he made X-rays and a scan of my knee and leg. His suggested that a total knee prosthesis would be the best option for my troubling pain. At the time, I did not feel ready for the surgery. I felt relatively young, 53 years old. The increasing pain and the idea of not being able to play golf or ski anymore convinced me to undergo the surgery. Dr Janssen provided ample information on the procedure and rehabilitation. I was operated in January 2009, a total knee prosthesis. Hospital stay was 5 days. The rehabilitation is hard work during the first months.
The surgery is now one and a half years ago and I can function very well. I have no more pain and my knee feels very natural. I went skiing a few times already and frequently play golf. Dr. Janssen’s skills, the provided information, the hospital stay and aftercare were perfect.
