Hyaluronic acid treatment PhD thesis

Hyaluronoc acid treatment for knee osteoarthritis is not without controversy. In the Netherlands, insurance companies do not provide reimbursement for this treatment in most hospitals and private commercial health care clinics. Maxima Medical Center is a national Center of Expertise for Knee disorders. For this reason, this treatment is provided at no extra cost for patients with moderate knee-osteoarthritis if indicated.
On Nov 24 2020, J. Hermans will defend his PhD thesis entiteld Hyaluronic Acid in Knee Osteoarthritis, effectiveness and efficiency (Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam). Interesting conclusion of this PhD Thesis is that hyaluronic acid treatment may be effective. best candidates are patients with severe knee pain <60 years of age mith moderate knee osteoarthritis and limited knee swelling. The thesis shows that knee arthroplasty may be postponed wth this treatment. This is also my experience with this hyaluronic acid treatment in elite and amateur sports patients with moderate knee osteoarthritis.
