Rob P.A. Janssen appointed Full Professor Knee Reconstruction at Eindhoven University of Technology

Unique combination of clinical practice and research
Dr. Janssen combines his clinical work as orthopedic knee surgeon with top of the line scientific research. As chair of the national Center of Expertise for Complex Knee Injuries and ESSKA-PAMI Research Center for ACL injuries in children at Máxima MC (MMC), he plays a leading role in orthopedic surgery.

Four main research lines
In his new role as full professor, dr. Janssen will focus on 4 important research lines:
- Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: research on prevention of graft reruptures and improvement clinical outcome, especially in younger patients.
- Cartilage research and osteoarthritis: Development of regenerative treatments for joint cartilage and new therapies for knee osteoarthritis.
- Diagnostic imaging: Innovative photo-acoustic techniques for early detection and monitoring of knee disorders.
- Digital Twin Knee: development of algorithms and sensor technology for personalized value-based knee care and remote patient management.
Bridging the gap
Rob Janssen brings valuable clinical expertise to the Orthopaedic Biomechanics research group. His international network and experience help to translate fundamental research into clinical applications for better patient care.
Dr. Janssen will hold his position as orthopedic knee surgeon and director of the orthopedic residency program at MMC. Since 2019, he is also professor Value-Based Helath Care at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. .
Impactful cooperation
De cooperation between MMC and TU/e has lead to breakthrough developments of imaging and cartilage regeneration. The appointment of dr Janssen as full professor will strengthen this cooperation.

Dr. Janssen is supervisor of PhD candidates at MMC, Fontys and TU/e. He has published more than 100 scientific articles and is regularly invited as speaker on knee disorders at national and international congresses. He is knee consultant for the Royal Dutch Football Association and member of the AI-taskforce (National Orthopaedic Dutch Society).
